The Regional Forum on Green Issues Reporting

On 5 February 2026, the Regional Forum on Green Issues Reporting was honorably convened and opened by distinguished leaders and high-level executives:

Mr. Sakhone Phommaly, Vice Head of the Propaganda and Training of Party Central Committee.

Mr. Savankhone Razmountry, President of the Lao Journalists Association.

Mrs. Veerle Smet, the Head of Cooperation, delegation of the European Union (EU) to Lao PDR.

Ms. Keoamphone Souvannaphoum: Country Director of CARE International in Lao PDR.

This collaboration featured interactive discussions and Q&A sessions on environmental issues, led by expert speakers from Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. These sessions guided Lao journalists through six topics:

1. Regional Environmental & Climate Trends, Environmental Policy, Governance, and Accountability.

Deep-diving into regional environmental and climate trends affecting Lao PDR, while enhancing understanding of policies, governance, and accountability to ensure accurate and comprehensive news reporting.

2. Best Practices in Green & Environmental Reporting.

Exchanging best practices in environmental and green journalism from experienced professionals to adapt them to the specific context and challenges of Lao society.

3. Reporting on Green Development & Sustainable Solutions.

Shifting from reporting only “problems” to highlighting green development and sustainable solutions (Solutions Journalism) to inspire hope and drive actionable change.

4. Storytelling Techniques for Environmental Impact

Mastering storytelling techniques that resonate with the audience to create environmental impact and effectively influence positive behavioral shifts.

5. Digital Tools & Innovation in Environmental Journalism

Leveraging digital tools and new innovations in media work to transform complex environmental data into simple, engaging, and easy-to-follow content.

6. Gender, Youth, and Community Perspectives

Prioritizing inclusivity by amplifying the voices of women, youth, and local communities, as every sector is a vital force in sustainable environmental protection.
